Matric results 2018 release date are announced by the Minister of Education on 4 January 2019. And on 5 January 2019 students will be able to get their results at their schools and exam centres.

2017: 75.1%
2016: 72.5%
2015: 70.7%
2014: 73.9%
2013: 78.2%
2012: 73.9%
2011: 70.2%
2010: 67.8%
2009: 60.6%
2008: 62.5%

IEB Matric Pass Rate

The IEB matric pass rate this year was exceptional increasing from the already high 98.67% from 2016 to new heights of  98.76% in 2017. These results are from the 112 000 students who wrote the IEB exams nationwide. 88.50% of the IEB students are eligible to study a degree programme in 2018.

How To Obtain Your Matric Results

After the matric results are released, many students will be anxious to find out what marks they achieved in matric. Luckily, there are four different ways that you can find out your matric results.

 

IEB EXAM RESULTS

If you are an IEB student you will need to find out your results on the IEB website.

 

DEPARTMENT OF BASIC EDUCATION

One of the first ways to obtain your results is to log onto the Department of Basic Education’s website below. If you attended a public/government school, then your results will definitely be available on this site. You will need the following to log in:

  • Exam number
  • Home Language
  • Your personal details (name, surname, etc.)

 

YOUR CELLPHONE

Follow these steps to sign up for the service:

  • SMS your exam number and ID number to 35658
  • There is a once-off cost of R3 when you register
  • As soon as the Department releases the results – you will get your results via sms immediately

THE NEWSPAPER

 

It will be in all of the big Newspaper brands for example:

  • The Rapport
  • The Argus
  • The Star
  • And online at News24.com

 

YOUR HIGH SCHOOL

Two days after the initial results are released, your school will give you your results. (Note: This isn’t your official matric certificate)
